Thursday 27th October 2022 - "The Session Band"
For an October treat we bring back four musos who’ve all played at the Club before, and are about to prove that musical lightning can strike twice. It’s almost as if there’s an Internet dating site for dedicated and talented musicians who want to meet up for a meaningful and mutually rewarding future life among the crotchets, minims and quavers of jazz.
They’re led by Peter Uppman on trumpet, flugelhorn, fresh vocals and old jokes. Alongside him, leading the laughter and tickling the keyboards, we have the Baroness of Boogie-Woogie herself, Jo Bloomfield, while smirking to one side we have Russell Bayne on guitar, with Pat Robbins riding percussion shotgun.
Their combined output reflects jazz in all its forms, and their track records as individual support players for the internationally famous include artists as diverse as Pavarotti and Chuck Berry. Expert exponents of their own instruments, they perform together like tequila and lime in a blender, and the end product is ear candy well worth an early Spring outing.
