Friday 29th November 2019 - "The Session Band"
An early Xmas treat as we bring back five musos who’ve all played at the Club before, but not necessarily in this gleeful combination. It’s almost as if there’s an Internet dating site for dedicated and talented musicians who want to meet up for a meaningful and mutually rewarding future life among the crotchets, minims and quavers of jazz.
They’re led by Peter Uppman on trumpet, flugelhorn, fresh vocals and old jokes. Alongside him, leading the laughter, we have the Baroness of Boogie-Woogie herself, Jo Bloomfield. Their accomplices consist of Russell Bayne on guitar, Pat Robbins on drums and Mike Hawthorne on trombone and joke-free vocals.
Their combined output reflects jazz in all its forms, and their track records as individual support players for the internationally famous include artists as diverse as Pavarotti and Chuck Berry. Expert exponents of their own instruments, they perform together like tequila and lime in a blender, and the end product is ear candy well worth an early Xmas outing.
