The Tweed Valley Jazz And Blues Club is a "not for profit", volunteer staffed club who's mission is to facilitate the live performance and appreciation of jazz in the Northern Rivers Area.
First formed in 1996 with the support and encouragement of the then mayor of Tweed Shire, Max Boyd, who has remained the club's patron ever since, the club remains an integral part of the Tweed Valley's ever growing arts community in all it's creative forms. As such, we are an important link in the chain of live music venues for jazz musicians to express their individual creativity.
We hold free workshops in Murwillumbah, when possible, for local primary and high school students. Well known national jazz exponents such as George Golla, Don Burrows and John Hoffman who have travelled through the area, happily conducted these sessions to aid and encourage young developing musicians.
The Club also proudly sponsors the local Performing Arts Festival in the Jazz categories and offers prizes to the young up and coming jazz musicians who win their category. The winners are then invited to play for us in an early band in front of an audience at one of our monthly concerts.
Our bimonthly newsletter to members provides information on the jazz concerts performed usually on the last Friday of each month. We always include two acts at each concert: a small local "early" band and a main band.
From these modest beginnings, a great jazz club has grown, respected in the music industry, but above all by jazz musicians everywhere.
