Friday 30th June 2023 - "Gold Coast Big Band"
This month we welcome The Gold Coast Big Band, no strangers to jazz enthusiasts on their native Gold Coast, but slipping across the border for one night only to demonstrate why they’ve become so popular everywhere they perform. When they took part in the Brisbane Big Band Festival last October 2022, they were delighted to receive praise from adjudicators and jazz royalty John Morrison and Jacki Cooper for their selection, arrangements and interpretation.
Band leader Paul Radford is their accomplished trombonist, while reeds are well represented by Mal Capewell on alto sax and David Katz on its tenor big brother. Gordon Matheson adds in the guitar licks, while Col Atkinson combines bass with vocals for a night of nostalgia on the dance floor.
