Friday 25th August 2023 - Peaches & the Alphasonics
For our August gig, we’ve laid on a special treat for fans of up-tempo, swinging Jump Blues with an authentic vintage sound as we welcome, for their first visit to the Club, Peaches & The Alphasonics, recreating the raw musical stylings that 40’s and 50’s black artists laid down as precursors to what became the Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll and Soul that took over the music scene in later decades.
Imagine the earthy sound of a young Etta James and a sassy LaVern Baker mixed with the early guitar stylings of a Guitar Slim or Johnny “Guitar” Watson, driven by the good-time rhythm of an upright doghouse bass and drums, and you’ve just about got the sound in your head. In August you can also get it in your ears.
Guitarist Josh Bambridge (Mojo Webb Band) delivers the punchy, up-tempo beat, along with percussionist Trevor Gollagher, formerly part of the award-winning ‘Lil Fi & The Delta Rhythm Kings’, while Paulie Burke slaps out the bass sounds that were first heard in original Rockabilly.
Up front, vocalist Lisl Chester adds the final layer to this well-baked vintage cake.
